Could we have found the next Sam Smith? With a divine voice that certainly does recall that of the British national treasure, we’re confident in placing our bets on Cardiff newcomer Gavin Beach. We also have Australian producer and multi-instrumentalist Laurel Laxxes to thank for framing the soulful musings of Beach in his new single ‘Somewhere New’. The two crossed paths in the Welsh capital and it would appear that their talents were made for each other. This track was inspired by Laxxes’ travels across Europe and in particular the beautiful landscapes of Wales. Here the Brisbon Bay native recalls that time: “I was living such an incredible life at this point. Being enamoured with the new landscapes I was finding myself in around Europe whilst being afforded the opportunity to collaborate with international artists left me feeling so inspired and positive.” We can feel Laxxes’ soul-nurturing experiences through the lush and atmospheric sounds in this piece of blissful electronica. - Hannah Thacker
